Is a $300 statement credit better than 5,000 Aeroplan points?

The current open offer for the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege Card is 105,000 Aeroplan Points, distributed as follows:

  • 20,000 Aeroplan Points on first purchase
  • 30,000 Aeroplan Points Spend $3,000 in the first 90 days
  • 55,000 Aeroplan Points $12,000 in first year

Which offer is better compared to an in-route offer for a total of 100,000 Aeroplan Points and CAD 300 Air Canada Statement Points?

The answer is clear: At our current valuation of 2.1 cents per point (CAD) for Aeroplan points, 5,000 points are worth $105. Since the difference between the two offers is the $105 worth of Aeroplan credits and the $300 statement credit, the offer in the path leads with a solid $195.

Additionally, both offers offer 50,000 Aeroplan Points within the first three months. Therefore, the offer in the path is $300 up front until the second annual fee is paid, as a statement credit is provided for any qualifying $300 purchase at Air Canada.
